Love and Hatred
Introduction
This piece is being scripted to the memory of both the over three thousand victims and a couple of perpetrators of September 11 tragedy. The chosen theme though dialectically opposed, is intended to highlight the sharp contrast between the feelings embedded within them.
Hatred
On a quiet normal Tuesday of September 11, 2001 in the USA, air passengers went aboard domestic flights as usual. Misfortune was however to befall four of such aircrafts. Unknown to all on board including airports security, were men full of hatred perhaps regarding perceived USA foreign policy bias, had hatched a scheme to hijack the planes.
Unlike any other event before, the hijackers never communicated to the outside world neither did they this time make any demands. Their intention was just one thing, to turn the hitherto travelling machine into the most dangerous weapon of our time.
Hatred borne out of desire to seek avengence, they had come to the USA to learn how to become airpilots though with a marked difference. They only sought to know how to pilot aircraft already airborn. They had no interest in knowing how to take off or land the machine.
The hate-filled perpetrators indeed took over the crafts and directed it into the twin towers on Manhattan, Pentagon and the forest elsewhere. Together with passengers, many on the ground and huge sums of valuable properties, many perished that fateful day.
Looking back on the whole incident, the question that keep ringing in my head is was there no other means of dealing with their grievances?
Why would human beings created in the image of God behave exactly the opposite of his nature?
Did the heinous act[crime] ever make any positive change to their grievances if any?
Has the world fared any better as a result of these unfortunate acts?
Can we the living do any thing to end such hatred?
The assassinated famous raggae superstar,Peter Touch provided the answer; "Everybody is crying our for peace but none is crying out for justice"
Love
It is deliberated on extensively in 1 Corinthins 13. It does not envy, and is patient and does not seek its own.
In otherwords, plays fair in all its dealings. It always applies the 'golden rule' ensuring justice and fairness to all.
If the world will exhibit just a little attribute of this great ingredient called love, all would enjoy harmony and would be each other's keeper. But alas, that sounds too utopian to expect and so the powerful shall continue to bully the weak while the weak will continue to devise new strageties to eke out survival.
Conclusion
So the question is which wins over the other? Love or Hatred? What has changed? Did we go or did we come?
Your guess is as good as mine as regards the future of how the world would be seven more years following September 11 disaster. Gloomy, despair or hope? Just go on your kneels say a little prayer for both the perished souls and the quick. Amen!
